The final days in Cartagena were mostly spent seeing some of the other local sites walking around the old town visiting the Palace of Inquisition and the following day walking all the way to Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas.
The walk to Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas felt about at torturous as the devices that were found in the Palace of Inquisition. There was little shade to hide under as I walked there, and no breeze either to help cool off. It’s amazing the sheer size of the castles that the Spanish built and then further expanded back in the day.
One of the last days we also went to the well-known Cafe Havana. Aida had mentioned there was no cover charge that night, so a group of us from the hostel went. Little did I know that there was actually a cover charge, but somehow Ruben from the hostel had talked the doorman into letting us all in for free.
This was also the first stop where I began to realize this trip is going to be filled with goodbye’s. I’ve traveled a lot and said a lot of goodbye’s, but somehow this trip feels like it will be different. Instead of a handful of goodbye’s at the end of a 1-2 week stay somewhere this will repeat itself over and over for months. I met some awesome people with great stories and experiences that I’m going to miss greatly. Somehow I hope our paths cross again on this trip.
